The story behind Allan Nelson, One Man, A Lunch Box and a Camera photography...

Many years ago, like so many of us, I had no idea where life would take me, but one constant was always the same. Trying to record those magic moments through the means of photography, somehow. Little did I know that, totally by accident, this would become a passion and something that would take my life in a new direction.

Like so many photographers, it would be very rare to see me in front of the camera, as I would be taking the photographs (and this is still the case). Thankfully, this led to me buying my first “learner” camera. A Kodak A651, with some seriously amazing new settings and options for me to learn, including an amazing zoom range. All these new settings, aperture, shutter speed, and ISO opened a new world to me on my journey. Although this is no longer my main camera, it is now my 9-year-old granddaughter’s camera as she travels with me on my journeys.

when it all went right...

and I found my new direction. Looking through the viewfinder of the camera became a new state of mental relaxation. I would forget about the day-to-day grind of living and working in the city of Manchester. The new home from home for me was wandering around anywhere that might have amazing views, unusual wildlife, great history, or just about anywhere that would give me another chance to capture a moment of magic through the camera lens.

Thankfully, having a caravan in the Snowdonia National Park became a true blessing and allowed me to explore some of what I believe to be the most beautiful views and scenery available in North Wales. Snowdonia just had it all, waterfalls, mountains, woodland, beaches, sunsets, and perhaps most importantly, an amazing history to be told through the eye of a camera lens.

Photograpy...

The art of sparking an emotion in reaction to recording a single moment in time.

Reflections In Time

Wandering Manchester

When it comes to my home city, I do seem to have the same issue as so many photographers. I find it uninspiring, lacking the photographic punch that I am always looking for. Having said that, however, occasionally when I am walking around, a composition does appear without any planning. But then I just have to hope I have my camera with me.

One of my favorite locations has to be Heaton Park. Regardless of the time of day or year, I can always find a new composition just waiting to be captured.

In all honesty, I think this lack of inspiration comes down to seeing the views day in and day out. Being on the road all day with my full-time job, I frequently see something to investigate another time when I am not working. But it is rare that I find the time to return and discover if my idea of a composition where correct or not.

Snowdonia National Park

offers the ultimate array of photography opportunities, from the amazing mountain peaks like Snowdon and Tryfan to the serene lakes and waterfalls. The park’s sheer diversity of landscapes, including the numerous historic slate mines and rolling hills, provides me with a range of subjects right on my doorstep during photographic adventures.

Regardless of whether it was my first time planning and visiting a location or a return visit, the compositions changed every time. Something, somewhere, would have changed, creating more opportunities to capture those amazing views and special moments. Snowdonia just never stops giving when you have your camera in your hand.

Behind every corner, every path, or perhaps even every farm gate, is another amazing composition just waiting to be captured.

Point of Ayr Lighthouse Summer Sunset

As I leisurely strolled along the shoreline, the stillness of the night enveloped the scene in an almost surreal tranquility Point of Ayr Lighthouse Summer Sunset. Almost as if time itself had momentarily paused to appreciate the quiet beauty before me. The darkness of the sky was so deep and velvety that it contrasted sharply with the solitary silhouette of the lighthouse, which stood tall and unwavering, a silent guardian against the encroaching night.
